This animation was proudly produced by VICSEG New Futures in partnership with children and families from our community, with funding support from the Communities for Children (CfC) Hume initiative.

Launched in July 2026, Cyber Safety: Voices of the Children is the culmination of a year-long project that brought together schools, community hubs, migrant and refugee families, and specialist partners to help children aged 10–12 build awareness of cyber bullying, online safety, and practical strategies to stay safe online.

Created through a co-design process, this project was shaped by what parents and children told us they needed: greater awareness of online risks, practical strategies, and the confidence to navigate digital spaces safely. Through workshops, information sessions, and community engagement activities held between November 2025 and April 2026, families shared their experiences to help create a resource that is practical, accessible, and grounded in real community voices.

As part of the project, children were invited to share what they had learned about online safety and the messages they believed other children should hear. Using art, drawings, and written messages, they expressed their ideas about recognising online risks, responding to cyber bullying, and protecting themselves from strangers and online predators.

Parents participated in parallel workshops designed to strengthen their knowledge and confidence in supporting their children's digital engagement and navigating online risks at home.

A group of participating children and their parents later joined a focus group alongside the scriptwriter, animation producer, and VICSEG New Futures Community Programs Manager. Their insights helped shape the script, ensuring the messages were simple, relatable, and meaningful for young audiences.

To make the animation even more authentic, participating children recorded voice-overs for parts of the video, bringing their own words and experiences to life. Their artwork is featured throughout the animation and also inspired the accompanying project posters.

Together, we are helping children and families build the knowledge, confidence, and skills to navigate the online world safely.
