#VICSEGHighlight: Hiba (School Based Education Support)

1 MIN READ / August 08, 2024

Hiba is a recent graduate from Sundus’ and Karen’s Certificate III in School Based Education Support group in Coburg. As a mother of three school-aged children, Hiba found the flexibility of her course with New Futures Training to be exactly what she needed! Hiba took some time out at the end of her group’s celebration class in Coburg to share her experiences. Thank you, Hiba! 😊

“It’s been a great year! Almost a year now since I enrolled last July.”

“I first found out about VICSEG’s course from a friend. She’d already done the same course with VICSEG previously. Enrolling was really easy! I made a phone call, put my name down and enrolled straight away. I did the online test [English literacy] – it was easy too. Everything has been really easy, honestly. I have a busy life, and to be able to fit this in, to attend class just one day a week, it was perfect for me.”

“Any questions I had outside of my class time on Monday, I’d just email Sundus and she’d reply. Both Sundus and Karen were great and helpful.”

“Our class established a WhatsApp group with everyone included as well. It was a great way of sharing information with each other. The class and VICSEG feels like a big family to be honest!”

“I was so happy in placement! I don’t know if it was the school, or if it was me? But we had a good easy run. Loved it. Previously I used to volunteer at the school as a parent helper. That’s why I enrolled in the course, because I really enjoyed working with the kids. I’m very involved in the school, so the staff know me well. The teachers know me. The other kids too. So, it was easy, and I loved it.”

ED: While on placement, Hiba got to provide one-on-one support to a pupil with special needs, and work with small groups on things like literacy, numeracy, and class projects. She also assisted on things like school excursions, sports, and food tech. She looks forward to applying for work soon, once making some adjustments to squeeze in time for work around her busy family life!
