Course in Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies in the Workplace

This course gives you the skills and knowledge to develop an asthma management plan and provide asthma-related first aid interventions in the workplace. 


Who is this course for?

Any worker, volunteer or member of the public who needs to be able to minimise risks and manage asthma episodes in community or workplace settings.

Additional first aid training in Asthma is recommended for workers in childcare and school settings.


What is covered in this course?

The course includes:

    • Triggers, signs and symptoms of an asthma attack
    • Asthma medications
    • Asthma action plans and risk minimisation strategies
    • First Aid management of an asthma attack
    • Review of an asthma incident


How long is the course?

The course is a 3-hour class delivered Face to Face with a trainer.

Class time is 9:30am to 12:30pm.


Are there any preconditions for attending this course?

  • No prior knowledge is required but students need sufficient language and literacy skills; ACSF level 2 or above is recommended.
  • Minimum age 17.
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) number. If you don’t already have your USI, you can get it online here


I want to do the Anaphylaxis course too; can I combine both?

Yes, you can. We always run Asthma and Anaphylaxis courses back-to-back on the same day. 

 

How will I be assessed?

Knowledge Assessment:

  • Students complete a written workbook with multiple choice or short answer questions.

Practical Skills Assessment:

  • Students will need to demonstrate:
  • Use of a reliever puffer for the treatment of an asthma attack
  • Hand over to emergency services


How long is my Asthma Certificate valid?

Your First Aid Management of Asthma Statement of Attainment will be valid for 3 years.
