Student Stories: Thida (Early Childhood Care and Education)

0 MIN READ / February 29, 2024

Thida Kasetkala was born in Thailand in a village where the majority of its residents didn’t share the same faith as her. Despite the challenges, her family instilled in her a deep appreciation for education and its potential to change lives. She believed that study was the key to empowerment and a brighter future.

Her educational journey began with her pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Chinese which immersed her in a language and culture that was far removed from her own. Little did she know that this decision would take her to distant corners of the world!

One day, she was offered a scholarship from the Chinese government, so she moved to China where she pursued a master's degree in Curriculum and Teaching Methodology. A few years later, Thida's journey took another turn when she moved to Australia, another new country with new challenges, but she was ready. Her experiences in China had prepared her to adapt, learn, and grow, however, Australia presented a unique challenge. After a decade of being a university lecturer, tour guide, and hospital Chinese interpreter in Thailand, she found herself in a new role - a full-time housewife. The contrast was stark, and she struggled to reconcile her past achievements with her present situation.

During this period of self-doubt, Thida discovered VICSEG New Futures Training on Facebook. Enrolling with us to study turned out to be the most significant turning point in her life. The trainers and staff recognized her potential, lifting her spirits when she needed it most. New Futures Training didn't just teach her about early childhood education, it showed her the power of self-belief and how a supportive community can help regain purpose.

While she has been with us, Thida has embarked on a new chapter, and after completing her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, she’s now pursuing a Diploma. It's a career path that resonates deeply with her belief in the transformative power of education and nurturing young minds. The warmth, encouragement, and support she received were instrumental in rebuilding her self-esteem. Thida confidently shared with us that her time at VICSEG has been the greatest decision she's ever made.

Thida's story is a testament to the power of education and the strength of the human spirit. It shows us that no matter where life takes us or how our roles may change, the pursuit of knowledge and resilience can lead to self-discovery and empowerment.

Thida's journey is far from over, but she embraces the path ahead with a renewed sense of confidence and a deep appreciation for the unwavering support of New Futures Training and all those who have been a part of her story.
