Student Interview: Mariam Najar, Early Childhood Education student

1 MIN READ / July 16, 2024

Mariam is a mother of three who came to Australia from Iraq as a refugee. She has excelled in her studies and is currently enrolled in the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

How did you come to VICSEG and New Futures Training and Australia?

I came to VICSEG because of my sister-in-law, she was studying community services with VICSEG. I came to Australia as a refugee.

Why did you decide to study the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care?

I chose to study Early Childhood Education because education has been my life. I was a teacher in my country Iraq, so when I arrived to Australia I decided to continue in this field. I love children so much. Also, I have three children, so I have extra experience in this field.

What do you like about the course?

I love everything, like my teacher and my classmates. I love to improve my knowledge and skills and to better myself as an educator. This course supports me to plan and to organize myself as an educator.

What do you like about your trainer?

My trainer is the best teacher because she supports us all the time. When we need any help or have any questions she answers us. Even when she is tired, she continues to support us and help us if we need it. She is so lovely, helpful and friendly. Also, she encourages me and all the students after we finish certificates in Early Childhood Education and Care to continue onto the Diploma course. I love her so much.

What is special about New Futures training?

The special thing about New Futures training is the diversity of staff and students. Craigieburn Campus staff are so helpful, and they respect everyone.

We currently have additional support available for Early Childhood students.

The Early Childhood Mentoring Program aims to boost cultural diversity in the early childhood education sector. The program offers mentoring and support as well as pre-employment and post-employment assistance.
